The water spray off tester assesses the capacity of lubricating grease to adhere to a metal surface when exposed to direct water spray under controlled conditions.
The water spray off tester determines the weight-based percentage of grease sprayed off a stainless steel test panel within a specified duration.
Complies with ASTM D4049 standards
Enhanced design for the spray chamber
The water spray off apparatus consists of spray chamber, delivery system, and a constant temperature reservoir. It administers water spray at specified rates and temperatures onto a test panel coated with sample grease. To test water spray resistance, the reservoir is filled with 8 Liters of tap water, and the thermostat is set at the test temperature. Achieving temperature equilibrium involves circulating water through the system before inserting the coated test panel into the spray chamber.
The water spray is adjusted to 40 psi (276 kPa) and maintained for 5 minutes. The water spray system includes a 1.3 hp positive displacement pump, a spray nozzle with a snubber fitting, a 0-60 psi pressure gauge, a bypass valve, shut-off and drain valves, and flexible high-pressure water lines. The hinged acrylic cover on the spray chamber is recessed into the housing, ensuring watertight operation. Additionally, two thermometer wells allow separate monitoring of reservoir and water spray temperatures. A standardized grease application fixture coats the test panel with the required thickness of sample grease. This apparatus utilizes tap water and does not necessitate a water hook-up.
